Big Eddie Wins Golf - Sunday 8th August - Only 2 golfers and 4 non-golfers turned up for this year's hack around The Orkney Golf Club course. Actually "hack" is not fair terminology as the quality of golf turned out to be remarkably good.
Due to lack of numbers, the golfers played standard rounds to their own handicaps and the non-golfers played under the "Texas Scramble" rules with an allotted handicap of 28 per pair.
The weather conditions were ideal - calm, dry and not too warm. Eddie scored an eagle at the 2nd hole which helped him to a round of 70 (nett 60) and the winners trophy. Second place went to non-golfers Skip and Ian McCulloch with a nett 62 and third to Ronnie Spence and Bob Innes with a nett of 65.

Refurbishment Work in Progress - Refurbishment work on the club started towards the end of January and is on-going. There is much still to be done, but work carried out to date has included the removal of the partition between the hall and games room, replacing fittings in the ladies downstairs toilet, new floor coverings in the kitchen, lounge bar and entrance hall and painting and decorating in the games room area. The pictures below illustrates some of the changes.
Tombola - The Friday night tombola prize has now been won. It reached to within a few pence of £250 and was bagged by Mary Hancock on Friday 9th of April.
The tombola prize draw has now been suspended while the committee analyse whether it has worked to the benefit of the club.
Orkney Club Wear - John Kemp's (Albert St., Kirkwall) has a range of clothing which can now be adorned with the club name and logo. The range is wide and varied and there is no restriction on how you may wish to display the design. Below is an example of the club name in classic Monotype Corsiva font along with the club logo embroidered on a black sweater.
A range of the garments available, along with their prices, can be seen on the club notice board or at John Kemp's Drapers.
